Gramática

The conditional: géif, hätt, wier

"géif" + infinitive is the all-purpose conditional: Ech géif soen (I would say), Mir géifen kommen (we would come).

A few verbs have their own forms: hätt (would have), wier (would be), kéint (could), misst (would have to), wéilt (would like).

  • Wann ech Zäit hätt, géif ech méi liesen. — If I had time, I would read more.
  • Dat wier eng gutt Iddi. — That would be a good idea.

Connector or adverb?

obwuel, wärend, well are conjunctions: the verb goes to the end. Obwuel et reent, gi mir eraus.

trotzdeem, dofir, allerdéngs are adverbs: they take first position and the verb comes second. Dofir bleiwen ech doheem.
